Scan a cell, a range or your current selection. Flagged cells are shaded and annotated with the matched words; your selection and scroll position are left exactly as they were.
A separate demo workbook shows the API being called from a spreadsheet, scanning 50 sample sentences row by row and uploading a file for batch scanning.
Word
Scan the whole document or a page range such as 1,3-5, paragraph by paragraph. Matched words are highlighted in yellow so they can be reviewed and fixed in place.
Optional cleaning replaces matches with masked text using the same rules as the API.
PowerPoint
Scan every text shape on every slide, including grouped shapes and tables, or limit the scan to a slide range. Matches are shown in bold red.
Ideal for checking decks before they go to a client or a conference.
- Install the add-in for each application you use. A Metis Halo tab appears on the ribbon with Scan and Settings buttons.
- Open Settings once and paste the API key from My Account. The setting is shared by all three applications and the desktop scanner.
- Click Scan. Text is batched and sent to the METIS HALO API over HTTPS; nothing is stored on our servers beyond the scan log.
- Review the highlighted results, or let the add-in clean them for you.
The add-in is a single compiled Windows component that adds the Metis Halo tab to Excel, Word and PowerPoint at once, installed per user with no administrator rights, and ships with a standalone desktop scanner. Nothing runs as macros, so there is nothing for Office to warn about and no code exposed in your documents.
Office scans are metered at 1 credit per 1,000 scans, so a 500-credit starter balance covers hundreds of thousands of scanned cells, paragraphs and shapes.
Every scan the add-ins send is tagged as an Excel, Word or PowerPoint scan, counted against your account, and one credit is deducted each time the counter completes a thousand. The three Office services can be switched on or off individually under My Account, and the price is set by the administrator.
Your key can be locked to your company's IP ranges under My Account › Services & Key Restrictions so it cannot be used from anywhere else, even if a colleague's laptop leaves the building.

Run the installer once; it registers the add-in for Excel, Word and PowerPoint for your Windows user and adds the desktop scanner to the Start menu. Restart any open Office application to see the Metis Halo tab.
